Colic remedies for infants

It can be normal for seemingly healthy babies to cry for very long periods of time, to the point of being inconsolable. Colic is one reason that a baby may cry, and while the reasons for it are not completely known, many doctors have reported that the baby is experiencing intense abdominal pain, causing them to cry for hours at a time. There are a few colic remedies for infants that a parent may try, to help bring relief to their child.

Avoid giving the baby juice

Walk the infant in a front-style type of baby carrier so that their legs are drawn up and the pressure is off the stomach.

Try soothing movements, such as gentle rocking, soft, repetitive music, a fan on low, or singing.

Medications can be purchased over-the-counter that can help, such as Gas-X, or other types of gas medicine formulated for babies.

Breastfeeding moms should avoid consuming foods that are known to cause gas, such as milk, onions, beans and cabbage.

Swaddling the baby may help relieve pressure on the stomach.

Take a break from a crying child when needed- hand off the infant to a family member or friend who can help out.
