What causes colic in babies
Colic is a very common phenomenon around the world and according to latest estimates; almost 40 % of all infants are reported to be suffering from colic. Signs of colic are usually seen between 3rd and 6th week after baby’s birth and they normally last till the baby is 3 months old. Though there have many theories about what causes colic in babies, but we still don’t have any concrete evidence that can point to a particular reason behind instance of colic in babies.
The first reason behind colic could be due to a rather immature and under developed digestive system which is unable to cope with the digestive needs of the baby after it has come out from the protective environment of uterus.
The second reason could be due to food habits of nursing mothers. Certain indigestible foods eaten by them have a great possibility of passing through their breast milk and causing colic in baby.
The third reason could be due to excessive air intake infants do while feeding on mothers. This excessive air often causes bloating in stomach, resulting in colic.
It is often a combination of all these reasons that can explain what causes colic in babies.
